Ms Lauretta Teffo is an entrepreneur and professional town and regional planner with over 18 years’ experience within both government and the private sector as an employee and management consultant at various advisory capacities on public policy and public infrastructure. She obtained her Masters in Town and Regional Planning from UKZN, as well as the Professional Management Diploma of Open University Business School with UNISA School of Business Leadership

In 2005, she established a town planning practice focused primarily on strategic planning, advisory support, project management, and programme performance monitoring and evaluation of public infrastructure projects such as government property portfolio, roads construction and maintenance, transport infrastructure and services, public works, water, and human settlements for such entities as the Gauteng Provincial Government, the National Department of Public Works, the National Department of Water Affairs and the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality etc. She continues to also deal with bread and butter issues related to the built-environment such as regional forward planning and development; urban and rural development; and municipal planning (including the development of local economic development strategies, urban management plans etc.).

She chaired the South African Planning Institute (SAPI) in Gauteng, representing the highest concentration of planners in the country. During which time she chaired the Planning Africa Conference in 2008 which for the first time was represented by planning professionals, development practitioners and policy makers from across the South African borders and beyond the SADC region. She also briefly served on SACPLAN 2. Ms Teffo served on the Peer Review Panel of the University of Johannesburg’s Department of Town and Regional Planning in 2015, for the purposes of accreditation with SACPLAN. This was after being appointed by the Gauteng Provincial Government as the member of the Advisory Panel for the socio-economic impact of the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project and eTolls in 2014. Amongst current appointments, Ms Teffo is the Industry Advisory Board Member of the University of Johannesburg’s Department of Town and Regional Planning from 2016. She is also the Project Manager and Member of the Technical Reference Group of Productivity South Africa’s Workplace Challenge Expert Committee from 2016. She is based in Johannesburg.
