Adv. Mabaso was born and raised in Mpumalanga Province. He is currently the Director of Legal Services in the Mpumalanga Provincial Government, Department of Human Settlements. He holds a Bachelor of law degree (2002) and Masters in Human Rights Law (2004) from the University of Venda, Master’s degree in management and development law and masters in labour law from the University of Limpopo. He is the former Deputy President of the SRC at the University of Venda, the former member of the faculty board at the University of Limpopo and the former member of senate at the University of Limpopo. He is currently the Deputy President of Alumni and Convocation at the University of Limpopo.

He has worked as an academic for 13 years at the University of Limpopo; he also worked as the head of department for 5 years at the University of Limpopo. He was Admitted as an Advocate of the High Court in the year 2003. He served as a commissioner of the small claims court at the Mankweng and Seshego Courts respectively in Limpopo Province for a period of 9 years uninterrupted.
