Mr Holden holds a BA Degree, a B.Com (Hons) Degree – Cum Laude - in Real Estate and a Masters Degree in Town and Regional Planning. He also holds Professional Registration with the South African Council for Town Planners and the South African Council for Valuers, and is a member of the South African Planning Institute, South African Institute for Valuers, South African Association of Consulting Professional Planners, and a Principal member of the Estate Agency Affairs Board.

Mr Holden has 30 Years Local Government experience in the Town Planning field with the primary focus having been on Land Use Management, Development Planning, Spatial Planning, Housing Development, Policy Formulation, and Zoning Scheme Compilation. He further occupied positions of Chief Town Planner (Cape Metropolitan Council), Head (Urban Planning) (City of Tygerberg) and District Manager (City of Cape Town). He established a private practise in 2007 (Sydney Holden Town Planners/Property Consultants) specialising in Land Use Management and Property Development. He is also practising as Professional Associated Valuer (with Douglas Property Valuations CC) since 2008, specialising in the full spectrum of Commercial Property Valuations and Development.

During September 2008 Mr Holden was nominated by the Association of Consulting Professional Planners to serve on the SACPLAN Appeal Board and appointed as such by the National Minister for Agriculture and Land Affairs. During October 2009 he was appointed by the Western Cape Provincial Minister for Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning to the Provincial Planning Advisory Board. During May 2011 he was appointed as Chairperson of the Planning Advisory Board by the Provincial Minister for Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning. He has close association with the Cape Peninsula University of Technology since 1978 as part-time Lecturer and more recently as External Moderator for numerous National Diploma and B.Tech Town Planning subjects.

Mr Holden is a member of the Gordon’s Bay Business Association (2010) Promoting sustainable Development in the Community.
