Ms Penelope Beck holds a BA (Law) and LLB from the University of the Western Cape. She was admitted as an attorney in 1992.

She lectured the course Welfare Law at the University of the Western Cape and was employed in the NGO sector for many years and served the Legal Resources Centre, the Housing Consumer Protection Trust and the Black Sash focusing on advocacy, consumer, housing and social issues.

Ms Beck served as Member of the Gauteng Rental Housing Tribunal, the Consumer Affairs Committee (CAFCOM) and the Estate Agency Affairs Board, amongst others.

Ms Beck is presently a Member of the National Consumer Tribunal (NCT), Member of the Office of Disclosure, Department of the Department of Human Settlements (HLAMDA), Classifier of the Film and Publications Board, Member of the South African Council of Planners(SACPLAN)  and Associate Member of INSITE, an organisation focusing on social and economic development of communities.

Ms Beck is currently practicing for her own account under the name Beck-Paxton Attorneys.
