Ms. Thuso Morake lives and works in Mafikeng in the North West Province. She is currently employed as a Chief Town and Regional Planner in the North West Provincial Shared Service Centre of the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform in the Spatial Planning and Land Use Management (SPLUM) directorate. Ms. Morake obtained her Bachelors of Town and Regional Planning with the University of Pretoria, and she is currently in the process of completing her Masters in Project Management with the University of Pretoria.

Over the years, Ms. Morake has worked in areas of spatial planning and land use management both in public and private sector. Ms Morake worked for a private company in Pretoria called Kayamandi Development Services for a period of two years where she was responsible for a number of development planning projects ranging from national water poverty indexes to electricity master plans. She was later appointed by the Department of Local Government and Traditional Affairs in the Spatial Planning and Land Use Management sub-directorate during September 2011. The scope of her duties covered all the municipalities within the North West Province. She is well conversant with Spatial Planning and Land Use Management issues in the North West Province. It is due to her knowledge on Spatial Planning matter in the Province that she was recruited to join the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform in 2014 to assist the department in fulfilling its core function of implementing the Spatial Planning and Land Use Management Act 16 of 2013.
