Responsible and Sustainable Tourism Dialogue
December 1, 2020 @ 11:10 am - 12:55 pm
11:10 – 12:55 RESPONSIBLE AND SUSTAINABLE TOURISM DIALOGUE
Sustainable tourism within an African context means ensuring the long-term prosperity of the industry through partnerships that benefit communities while conserving natural resources and habitats. Natural heritage is a precious, sustainable resource that needs to be protected against short-termist profiteering thinking. However, tourism and travel have not changed much since 1994. Unfortunately, little has changed in the travel industry since 1994.
Communities need to see direct benefits from tourism or they will not buy into sustainability. Industry stakeholders must therefore develop projects that seek to transform the tourism landscape and put communities first, empowering them to take ownership of tourism opportunities without destroying resources.
