23 – 25 May – RISE Africa Action Festival 2022.
This virtual conference is free for all to participate in and will bring together Africa’s most inspiring urban thinkers, doers and enablers to take part in interactive and action-oriented sessions and discussions. Our Future Cities will once again co-host this action festival together with ICLEI Africa and the African Centre for Cities. Last year’s action festival was attended by around 1 400 individuals from 206 African cities, representing 380 different organisations globally.

This year’s action festival is framed around the theme of CREATIVITY/ URGENCY/ AGENCY. Our Future Cities will also host three sessions, which we would like to encourage you to register for and join us as we explore the following themes:
Design for Innovation: Creativity at the forefront of housing, public space and mobility solutions
Creativity and experimentation are central to pioneering new ways of being and doing in urban Africa. It is essential that we draw inspiration from and amplify the innovative and resourceful culture ever-present in African cities. This session investigates projects at the forefront of creative design and problem-solving in housing, mobility, and the public realm.

Africa now! An urgent case for investment towards more sustainable cities and towns
Urban Africa needs an investment strategy for more sustainable cities grounded in evidence, that responds with urgency to the needs of urban residents and matched by the investment priorities of funding institutions. This session will host industry experts and thought leaders in an exploration of the urban investment landscape in Africa and impactful strategies from governments and the private sector alike.
