WHO IS THE COURSE DESIGNED FOR?
This is an inter-disciplinary short learning programme. It is thus suitable for any holder of a NQF 7 or 8 qualification in any relevant Built Environment field and fields such as management and finance, humanities and science, town and regional planning, architecture, quantity surveying and construction, civil engineering, building sciences, real estate and valuation, commerce, sociology, geography, social work, etc. The programme is also suitable for those who aspire to join the field; to further their understanding, refine their skills and build their competence in planning, designing, developing and managing the physical, social, economic, environmental and institutional aspects of urban areas so that they contribute to the well-being of cities and make them sustainable. This course qualifies for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and the student will thus be considered for a Masters in Sustainable Urban Planning and Development (MSUPD).
LEVEL, CREDITS AND LEARNING MODULES ASSIGNED TO THE QUALIFICATION
The professional course on Urban Sustainable management offer a consortium of advanced NQF level 8 and seeks to plug the gaps by providing the knowledge and skills to professionals from a variety of disciplines within the built environment. The course comes in twelve (contributing 12 credits) modules addressing critical learning outcomes in a manner that supports SACPLAN exit-level outcomes. To complete, 120 hours is allocated for contact lectures, independent reading; interacting with learning materials and online activities such as video lectures; preparation for and completion of assignments, and other assessments.

Module 2: Land identification and acquisition processes
Module 3: Land Use planning and management principles and practices
Module 4: Spatial planning and development frameworks
Module 5: Urban macro-economic development and management principles
Module 6: Local economic development and entrepreneurial management
Module 7: Urban financial and economic resources management
Module 8: Urban environmental management and application of GIS tools
Module 9: Urban service planning and delivery management
Module 10: Urban infrastructure planning and management
Module 11: Urban social infrastructure planning and management
Module 12: Urban utilities and facilities planning and management
