DESIGNATION: Deputy Director: Integrated Development and Business Planning
LOCATION: 48 Ameshoff Avenue, SAPPI Building, Braamfontein
Primary Function:
Responsible for the coordination and management of Integrated Planning processes in the City of Johannesburg, ensuring effective and efficient business planning; and linking these to the delivery requirements for the Institutional Performance Management System to ensure effective service delivery. Develop dynamic integrated strategic plans aligned with guiding policies and community needs to develop our citizens and a world-class African city. Drive and manage the processes of strategic planning in the city. Operationalize corporate strategy – integrated planning and frameworks. Briefing the Mayoral Committee, Council, and the Executive Management Team on strategic planning, business planning and relevant processes. Provide consolidated feedback to the Unit Head. Disseminate information City-wide. Coordinate strategic planning processes as they relate to community-based planning. Manage public consultation and outreach processes. Ongoing research and benchmarking to ensure best practices about strategic planning in the City. Business and people management of the Sub-unit.
Key Performance Areas:
• Drive and manage the processes of strategic planning in the City, which allows for effective and efficient business planning that would determine delivery requirements for the Institutional Performance System;
• Operationalize corporate strategy – Integrated planning and frameworks (5-year IDPs, Annual IDP reviews, Service Delivery and Budget Implementation Plans, and business plans);
• Coordination of the City’s strategic planning;
• Equip the Executive with strategic information about medium-term planning and IDP;
• Provide consolidated feedback to Mayoral Committee, City Manager, and the Executive, i.t.o. integrated planning processes;
• Business management of the Sub-Unit;
• Human Resource/people management.

• Sound knowledge of data analysis and evaluation, and the ability to translate data into accessible reports for diverse audiences;
• Sound knowledge of research design, techniques, and relationships with relevant stakeholder networks;
• Sound understanding of applying public administration principles and implementing contemporary management practice processes as they relate to Integraed Planning functions.

Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree or relevant qualification at NQF level 7 in Development Planning, Development Studies, Town and Regional Planning or associated discipline or commensurate qualification;
• Strategy conceptualization, development and design;
• Project management;
• 7 – 9 years relevant experience in planning within a large organization in either the public or private sector;
• Must have management experience;
• Experience in project management is an advantage.
