Job Advert Summary
The Impact Centre seeks to appoint three (3) Research Assistants with backgrounds in the social sciences and humanities, and interests in engaged and community-based research, research impact, evidence synthesis and systematic reviews, data analysis and governance, science communication, the public understanding of science, and innovation systems. In addition to working towards the completion of their university degrees, interns are required to participate in research projects in the Impact Centre addressing these areas of work.

Minimum Requirements
• Have previously/or currently working on a research project in the HSRC
• Be currently registered for a Master’s degree or be close to completion (but not yet graduated);
• Be prepared to travel to undertake fieldwork;
• Be curious and enthusiastic about a research career that includes qualitative and quantitative
• data analysis;
• Possess data management/data analysis/statistical skills;
• Have knowledge of and demonstrable working experience in at least one of the following software packages: MS Excel, MS Access, SPSS, Stata, NVivo or Atlas.ti;
• Be able to work independently as well as in a team.
Duties & Responsibilities
• Conduct reviews of journal articles and other literature;
In delivering ‘social science that makes a difference’, the Human Sciences Research Council initiates and undertakes policy-oriented research projects and programmes from its offices in Cape Town, Durban, and Pretoria. Its public-purpose mandate is set out in the Human Sciences Research Council Act of 2008.
• Write-up literature and summaries of evidence reviewed;
• Execute and manage projects assigned to them;
• Conduct research administrative duties relevant to projects in the Centre;
• Administer relevant interview schedules, questionnaires, observation schedules and other tools for data collection;
• Collect and analyse data;
• Assist in preparing and writing reports for publication and dissemination.
Policy
In delivering 'social science that makes a difference' in South Africa and the region, the Research Programmes of the Human Sciences Research Council initiate and undertake policy-oriented research projects and programmes from its offices in Cape Town, Durban, Pietermaritzburg and Pretoria. Its public-purpose mandate is set out in the Human Sciences Research Council Act No.17 of 2008.
