Abstract

Gondar is an important historical and cultural city that is currently facing a crisis because of the political changes that moved the center of political power to other regions. An important question that is often raised is: What can cities such as Gondar do to remain economically viable and culturally relevant? This section identifies the most important sectors that the city should focus on to build a sustainable economy. The sectors are identified based on the background information and analyses of the economy presented in Chap. 9. Agriculture, tourism, and the development of the infrastructure base of the city as well as the integration of key principles of governance are identified as the most important sectors in building Gondar’s economy.
